There is always so much pressure on us to have clear skin. Everyone’s body is different, and just like some bodies are fat and some are thin, some people are prone to oily skin or acne. This topic is seldom spoken about within body-positive discourse and people with “bad skin” are heavily underrepresented in the media; and if they are represented, it’s usually not in a good way. Similar to fat shaming, people make unreasonable judgments about those who have acne—for example, assuming they’re dirty or eat badly. People are sometimes insensitive, expecting those with acne to seek out often expensive treatments that many don’t have access to. Try to unlearn the assumptions you have about acne and other skin conditions considered to be “bad.” Don’t hate people with pimples, spots, marks, psoriasis, discoloration, and scars, which do not equal bad skin!
